'Tis the Season for Different Social Styles

You’re a Sagittarius. Your sweet daughter is a Pisces. You take your daughter to holiday a party. All of her friends are there. The music is playing, the kids are dancing and having a great time giggling and laughing with each other. Except for your daughter. She’s off staring at the twinkling lights, ornaments and the other party decorations. You go over and ask her if she’s having a good time. She insists she is, despite the fact that she’s not mingling or participating in party games. You’re not convinced she’s being honest, and she’s confused as to why you don’t believe her.

Truthfully, you don’t have to be a Sag and your daughter doesn’t have to be a Pisces for this kind of situation to play out. But it’s important to remember during this season of parties that there are signs that are more outgoing than others, and if you are born under a more extraverted sign (such as Aries, Leo or Gemini) and your child is born under a quieter, less extraverted sign (such as Cancer, Scorpio or Capricorn) you might be left scratching your head at social events, wondering why your kid won’t mingle, join in the fun and have a good time JUST LIKE YOU would.

My advice: Don’t project! That Pisces child from my earlier scenario was having a good time. The balloons and party decorations tickled her imagination, she was enjoying the music, and she was soaking up the good vibes emitted by her friends who were having fun. You were the one with the problem.

Of course as a parent it’s your instinct to love and protect your child, and making sure she’s OK is perfectly natural. But once she assures you she’s OK, just let it go. If she gets the impression you’re uncomfortable with her social style, she’ll become insecure. Instead, be proud of her individuality and ability to look at life differently. We all have so much to learn from each other. And one day she may be even open to you teaching her how to bust a move on the dance floor.
